Today we’re back with the owner’s review of the Toyota Corolla XLI 2009. This is the 10th generation Corolla, launched at the end of 2008. This is the entry-level variant of the Corolla, but it is completely modified. “Everything is modified except the seats and AC knobs,” stated the owner. Originally it came with the 2NZ-FE 1.3-liter engine, but the owner has swapped it with a 2ZZ 1.8-liter engine which makes around 187 hp and a torque of 230newton meters. This engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Modifications

The car is fully modified, be it cosmetics or performance. Firstly it has a 2ZZ engine, then it is fitted with 4-way coilovers along with pillar bars for stability and added weight. Moreover, it has an HKS exhaust system. The owner has painted the car red with black 17-inch Emotion R alloy rims. The car is also fitted with a body kit which gives it a sporty stance.

Drive

The performance of the car is nowhere near the standard XLI. With 187hp, the car is extremely fast. According to the owner,” It is way faster than standard Civics and Corollas.” The comfort of this car is compromised due to coilovers, but it has a soft setting. The 2ZZ swaps in original fitment according to the mounts without any alteration and provides a fun drive.

Interior

The owner has also made some changes to the interior as he has installed XRS variant parts, which come in international markets. The interior changes include a black dash, XRS door panels, XRS instrument cluster and steering wheel, an upgraded sound system, and many more cosmetic changes.

Fuel Average

The 2ZZ engine gives a fuel average of 4 to 5 km/l within the city and around 7 km/l on the highway. In contrast, the stock 1.3 engine gives about 10 to 11 km/l within the city.

Maintenance

Maintenance cost is on the higher side as an average oil change with filters and plugs costs around Rs. 14 to 15,000. However, a stock corolla’s maintenance can be easily done for Rs. 5,000.

Spare parts

Parts are readily available in local markets of major cities, but as per the owner, it isn’t easy to source parts in Hyderabad, where he lives. Prices are nominal for stock spare parts. The owner usually purchases parts from Peshawar.
