In a recent meeting held at the Railway Headquarters, Caretaker Minister for Railways, Shahid Ashraf Tarar, addressed critical issues concerning the railway system. Here’s a breakdown of the key points discussed in the meeting:

1. Reducing Railways Fuel Costs

Minister Tarar stressed the importance of reducing fuel costs within the railway system. To achieve this, he called for a gradual shift towards an online fuel management system. The primary goal is to prevent fuel theft and ensure efficient fuel supply to storage depots. These measures are expected to enhance the overall operational efficiency of the railways.

2. Railways & Solar Energy

Recognizing the significance of sustainable energy sources, Minister Tarar urged the railway administration to expedite the process of transitioning the railway network to solar energy. This shift aligns with global efforts to reduce carbon footprints and promote cleaner energy alternatives.

3. Digital Monitoring of Fuel Consumption

Efficient fuel management requires accurate monitoring. Minister Tarar emphasized the need for digital monitoring systems to track fuel consumption effectively. Such systems would contribute to better control over fuel-related expenses.

4. Electricity Theft Crackdown

Minister Tarar commended the railway administration for its efforts in cracking down on electricity theft. This initiative aligns with cost-saving measures and ensures that electricity is used responsibly within the railway infrastructure.

5. Track Maintenance

The meeting addressed the repair work needed for railway tracks affected by floods and rains. Minister Tarar directed DS Quetta to complete track maintenance work on the Sibbi Harnai section by September 30. This proactive approach ensures the safety and reliability of the railway network.

6. Modernizing Cairns Hospital

The meeting also touched upon healthcare services within the railway sector. It was decided to modernize Cairns Hospital and open its outdoor services to the general public. Importantly, this healthcare improvement initiative will not involve public-private partnerships. Instead, the railway itself will upgrade hospitals under its management.

7. Railways Hospitals

Minister Tarar encouraged the development of a business model to generate revenue from Railway Hospitals. This innovative approach aims to optimize the utilization of healthcare facilities managed by the railways.

Minister Shahid Ashraf Tarar’s directives emphasize a holistic approach to enhance railway efficiency, reduce costs, and improve healthcare services within the railway sector. These initiatives align with the goal of providing better services to the public and ensuring the sustainability of Pakistan’s railway system.
