There are many threads here, people asking for suggestions and blogging their engine swap stories. Well, last night, I decided to tune up my car (it's all stock as of now, nothing ever swapped), when I got to the point to remove the spark plugs, I found 2 of the 8 were drenched in oil.
So, I had to replace the valve cover gasket as well. What I found out that Cylinder 2's piston head was black, like dead black, while all others were brown red so were the corresponding spark plugs. I replaced all spark plugs with NGK Platinum ones, as the go great with i-DSI.
So today I checked again, and the plugs at Cylinder 2 were black again. I checked the exhaust muffler and I could get a black smudge on my finder easily (I think burning oil right?)
Plus, it feels really really under powered. Valve gaps are correct according the Repair Manual, I think 0.016 inc intake and 0.028 exhaust. Engine revs up, sounds awesome, has literally no vibration at all on idle, no jerk when shifting to Drive Mode but what the hell, I really have to press the accelerator at launch to make it move quickly, plus on motorways? crossing 120 km/h is like so hard for this car.
So, I have decided to go for L15 (VTEC) Engine, coupled with CVT, (Yes, My gearbox is fine, no jerks, no slippage, about 1500km old cvt oil) but I'll get it coupled, I wanna have it the way it came, a VTEC ECU (obviously for vtec solenoids and stuff...EGR too), and possibly an ABS unit of this same car. VTEC setup is gonna cost me around 35~40K. Plus, I have got the cluster as well that has got the 7 speed mode.
And, on the other hand I can go for L13A or L15A i-DSI power train only and I'll be able to save a ton of fortune.
So I need suggestions because I am clearly undecided, as the fron't suspension needs to be overhauled as well, need to buy a steering rack (rod only, already got an extra torque sensor and steering motor).
Any suggestions are appreciated. And how does a car in a month or two starts to make exhaust carbon black?
P.S I forgot to mention, this one time, a friend of mine gave me 8 iridium spark plugs of Honda Civic Reborn, they are immaculate and I in too much excitement didn't pay much attention and swapped all 8 of those with mine. When I cranked it, it just wouldn't start. When I took all the plugs out, their tips were crushed, and tiny ceramic parts went in to the cylinder. After I put old ones back, I cranked it and there was rattling sound, those ceramic pieces I think...but the sound disappeared as it felt that those pieces went out the exhaust through the exhaust valves. May be that what caused engine to loose power in time? And I don't have a compression guage .... I am gonna try to arrange one.
